Total and permanent disability claims (TPD)

If you have suffered an illness or injury that prevents you from working on a permanent basis, you may be eligible to make a claim for financial assistance through your superannuation policy. This is known as a Total and Permanent Disability Claim (TPD).

Total and permanent disability is generally defined as an inability to perform your usual duties – the occupation you were trained for or have experience in – because of injury or illness. If you have sustained an injury, it does not matter where the injury occurred, provided it was not due to deliberate self-harm. If you developed an illness prior to joining your super fund, you may still qualify for benefits.

You may also be entitled to an early payout of your superannuation account balance on the basis of permanent incapacity.

Please note: total and permanent disability is considered separately to any other claims you may be entitled to.
